What Are the IMRF Awards

IMRFAwards Dark Sky Small

What Are the IMRF Awards?

The IMRF Awards was brought into life by the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) and Orolia/McMurdo in 2016 (then called the H.E.R.O. Awards) to raise awareness and recognition of the hard-working individuals and organisations making maritime Search and Rescue possible.

The IMRF Awards:

minilogoimrf Raise awareness of the excellent work done by all those involved in the maritime SAR community, with the aim of increasing government, commercial and public recognition, support and funding;
minilogoimrf Reward the selfless efforts and achievements of individuals who make sacrifices to save lives, on the water or in support;
minilogoimrf Raise awareness of innovative SAR products, technologies and processes with the aim of spreading ideas for improvement.

Pole Star Sponsors H.E.R.O. Award for Innovation and Technology

Pole Star, which has proudly served the maritime sector by increasing safety and security at sea for 20 years, is sponsoring the International Maritime Rescue Federation’s H.E.R.O. award for Innovation and Technology in Maritime Search and Rescue.

The H.E.R.O. (Honouring Excellence in Rescue Operations) Awards, launched last year, have been developed to draw attention to the extraordinary work done to save lives in maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) across the world.

Their aim is to recognise and show gratitude for courage and exceptional performance, both by individuals and organisations, as well as raise awareness of innovative SAR products, technologies and processes with the aim of spreading ideas for improvement. Winners will be announced at an awards dinner held at the RNLI, Poole in the UK on 2 November 2017.

Julian Longson, Managing Director, Pole Star says: "At Pole Star we’re passionate about increasing maritime safety and security, and have been demonstrating this for 20 years by working alongside governments, search and rescue operations, naval operations, and shipping companies. That’s why it will come as no surprise that we’re proud to sponsor this year’s Innovation & Technology H.E.R.O. award, honouring those who put their lives at risk every day, to go above and beyond the call of duty in saving lives at sea."

Udo Fox, IMRF Chairman and Trustee and Executive Director, German Maritime Search & Rescue Service says: "We are very grateful to Pole Star for their sponsorship of the H.E.R.O. Awards. Although only in their second year, the H.E.R.O. Awards 2017 have attracted interest and nominations from around the world, and we look forward to announcing the winners at the awards dinner in November."

The International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) is the non-governmental organisation bringing the world's maritime SAR organisations together to share knowledge and improve maritime SAR coordination and response so more people in distress on the world’s waters can be saved.

The IMRF H.E.R.O. Awards seek to recognise some of these exceptional individuals and organisations around the world that make maritime SAR possible. The winners will be announced at an awards dinner held at the RNLI, Poole in the UK on 2 November 2017.

Last year, the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) launched the second IMRF Awards - then called the H.E.R.O. Awards - recognising just some of the exceptional individuals and organisations around the world that make maritime search and rescue (SAR) possible.

The inaugural IMRF Awards were a great success, raising awareness of the excellent work done by those involved in the maritime SAR community, recognising outstanding bravery and achievements and highlighting innovative new SAR products and technologies.

We are now seeking sponsors for the IMRF Awards 2018.
