What Are the IMRF Awards

IMRFAwards Dark Sky Small

What Are the IMRF Awards?

The IMRF Awards was brought into life by the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) and Orolia/McMurdo in 2016 (then called the H.E.R.O. Awards) to raise awareness and recognition of the hard-working individuals and organisations making maritime Search and Rescue possible.

The IMRF Awards:

minilogoimrf Raise awareness of the excellent work done by all those involved in the maritime SAR community, with the aim of increasing government, commercial and public recognition, support and funding;
minilogoimrf Reward the selfless efforts and achievements of individuals who make sacrifices to save lives, on the water or in support;
minilogoimrf Raise awareness of innovative SAR products, technologies and processes with the aim of spreading ideas for improvement.

The IMRF H.E.R.O. Awards

IMRF’s CEO Bruce Reid writes:

It is time to recognise excellence in Search And Rescue, time to applaud the coordinators, the developers, the innovators, the rescuers and the sector leaders who make the world's waters safer for everyone.

This year the IMRF is initiating our new, annual international SAR award, H.E.R.O. – Honouring Excellence in Rescue Operations. The H.E.R.O. Awards will reward courage, excellence, initiative and exceptional performance. They will highlight support teams and developers as well as those who actually conduct the rescues. They will be awarded to individuals, or organisations, making a major contribution to SAR.

The H.E.R.O. Awards will therefore honour acts of bravery and innovative ideas and technical and/or intellectual excellence, which in unison make SAR work safer for the rescuer and the rescued alike. This is in the true spirit of the IMRF – encouraging the development of SAR worldwide. We are very grateful to our Associate Member, the McMurdo Group, for their very valuable support of this initiative.

Applications are now being accepted, for the period 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016. Please visit www.imrfhero.org to nominate a H.E.R.O. and tell the world how you, one of your colleagues, your organisation or company has addressed the challenge of maritime SAR to save lives.

Application entries close 29 July 2016.

Randel Maestre, Chief Marketing Officer for the McMurdo Group, adds: “McMurdo is proud to support the IMRF H.E.R.O. Awards. Many times in SAR-related stories the focus is on the individual being rescued. But what about those men and women who are behind the scenes monitoring for emergencies, coordinating rescue efforts, building innovative SAR technologies or, in many cases, risking their lives as part of the actual rescue operation?

“This award will recognize these individuals, and all of us at McMurdo look forward to working with the IMRF to honor these real life heroes.”

For some history on the origin of the H.E.R.O. Awards, please read the McMurdo blog at http://www.mcmurdogroup.com/2016/04/22/h-e-r-o/.

Last year, the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) launched the second IMRF Awards - then called the H.E.R.O. Awards - recognising just some of the exceptional individuals and organisations around the world that make maritime search and rescue (SAR) possible.

The inaugural IMRF Awards were a great success, raising awareness of the excellent work done by those involved in the maritime SAR community, recognising outstanding bravery and achievements and highlighting innovative new SAR products and technologies.

We are now seeking sponsors for the IMRF Awards 2018.
